The Quadra is the primary small group in Socionics. Each Quadra contains four types — two dual pairs — who share a common set of valued and unvalued functions, a characteristic social theme, and a general orientation toward life and interaction.
There are four Quadras: Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta.
Alpha Quadra
Alpha types share a general theme of reflecting and delighting in — an orientation toward creating new ideas and information as a means of maintaining harmony in a socially shared world. There is an innate curiosity here, balanced by a concern for the feelings and comfort of those around them.
Notable Alpha figures illustrate this well. Ayn Rand (ILE) built her philosophy of Objectivism from scratch — a complete system encompassing metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics and aesthetics. Carl Jung (LII) formed the conceptual basis for Socionics itself through his work on cognitive processes and his foundational distinction between introversion and extraversion.
The dual pairings within Alpha follow the careful-infantile pattern. If the Quadra has a life stage, it maps loosely to childhood — a time of discovery, play and the formation of first principles.

Beta Quadra
Beta types share a general theme of achievement and endurance — an active, driven orientation toward getting things done in response to a chaotic or resistant world. There is a fighting spirit here, compelled by a sense of glory, honour and the need to prove oneself.
Donald Trump (SLE) became a public emblem of aggressive corporate ambition. Tutankhamun (IEI) — whatever his personal agency — became a figure who, centuries later, sparked a renewed public fascination with an entire civilisation.
The dual pairings within Beta follow the aggressor-victim pattern. If the Quadra has a life stage, it maps to adolescence — a time of testing limits, asserting identity and learning which battles are worth fighting.

Gamma Quadra
Gamma types share a general theme of collaboration and acquisition — an orientation toward marketing and bringing new ideas into acceptance, discarding what no longer works in a forward-moving world. This is a socially and commercially oriented Quadra.
Jack London (LIE) was among the first Americans to build a career exclusively from commercial writing — understanding and working the emerging market for fiction. Honoré de Balzac (ILI) is regarded as one of the founders of realism in European literature, reshaping what the novel could do.
The dual pairings within Gamma also follow the aggressor-victim pattern. If the Quadra has a life stage, it maps to adulthood — a time of building, competing and establishing social and professional standing.

Delta Quadra
Delta types share a general theme of protection and assistance — an orientation toward conservation and stability in a resource-consuming world. There is a quiet wisdom here, a concern for sustainability, cultural values and the wellbeing of future generations.
Thomas Edison (LSE) devoted his work to practical improvements in human survival — the incandescent light bulb being only the most famous. Fyodor Dostoevsky (EII) explored human psychology within the troubled political, social and spiritual context of 19th-century Russia, asking questions that still have no clean answers.
The dual pairings within Delta follow the careful-infantile pattern. If the Quadra has a life stage, it maps to elderhood — a time of passing on hard-won wisdom, preserving what matters and managing finite resources with care.
